Fine quality solid walnut Victorian Arts and Crafts partners desk with Rugbeians interest. The desk was presented to The Rev Charles Elsee in 1901 for 42 years as master assistant and 33 years as Bursar of Rugby School. The boomer is named after the Elsee bell, a huge Bronze bell presented to the school in 1914 by the family of the Rev Charles Elsee a former maths teacher commonly known as the Boomer, it is inscribed with the school motto Orando Laborando, it was rung every day at midday throughout world war one. The Boomer continues to be rung from the chapel tower every morning during term time. The desk is all original with original leather insert and is in very good condition having been cleaned and waxed in our workshop ready for its new home. The desk has 9 drawers to the front with mahogany lined drawers and quality Hobbs & co locks and solid brass Arts and Crafts plate handles the reverse has three drawers with two cupboards and brass strap hinges. The cupboard doors again fitted with Hobbs & co locks and catches the desk come complete with a single key for all drawer locks
