Item Details
A decorative Victorian ebonised pier cabinet dating to circa 1870, featuring elegant contrasting wood inlay decoration and applied gilt metal mounts.
The cabinet has a single mirrored door with working lock and key, framed by fine inlaid wood foliate and floral motifs, which stand out beautifully against the deep ebonised finish. The corners are enhanced with ornate gilt mounts, typical of the decorative Napoleon III influence seen in high Victorian furniture.
Below, a band of burr walnut veneer adds warmth and contrast to the base, while the cabinet stands on a shaped plinth.
Originally intended as a pier cabinet for use in a Victorian drawing room or hallway, the mirrored door would reflect light and help brighten interiors.
