Fine Late Georgian Mahogany Chest of Drawers with Brushing Slide, Circa 1810
A very good quality late Georgian mahogany chest of drawers, dating to circa 1810, of elegant proportions and excellent colour throughout.
The well-figured cross banded mahogany top sits above a useful pull-out brushing slide, a desirable feature found on better quality chests of the period, providing an additional working surface when required. Below are three long graduated drawers, each retaining their brass oval plate handles and original locks.
The chest is particularly attractive for its rounded canted corners with reeded quarter columns, a refined architectural feature inspired by classical design and typical of well-made Georgian furniture. The drawer fronts display particularly pleasing flame mahogany figuring, giving the piece warmth and visual depth.
Raised on shaped swept bracket feet, the chest has a strong yet elegant stance and displays the balanced proportions associated with the late Georgian period.
A handsome and practical early 19th century mahogany chest, offering generous storage while maintaining a refined decorative presence. Pieces of this quality remain highly versatile and work well in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Condition
In good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with use and age. The mahogany retains a lovely colour and patina and the drawers run well.
