Burr Oak Round Extending Jupe Dining Table

Sold
A superb quality burr oak expanding Jupe table hand made to the original method. Robert Jupe's table is one of the most novel designs of the 19th Century. This table is hard to beat for sheer ingenuity. This table was largely built throughout the 19th century, the majority by Gillows of Lancaster. By rotating the apron, the arms throw out eight 'pie' like leaves on glides to allow parallel leaf inserts, thus forming a circle of 90 inches from 66 inches to from 8 to 12 people The concept of this table was so successful it has continued to be made throughout the 19th century. The design has now been revived. This table is made of solid oak with wonderful burr oak veneer and is in great condition and a great colour, and comes complete with matching leaf holder that protects the eight additional leaves when not in use. The table comes in two sections for transport these being the top and base and assembles very easily. A very impressive dining table that will be a great conversation piece at any dinner party.
