Item Details
A quality oak Lancashire longcase clock of very good proportions with full 12 inch brass dial showing silvered chapter ring, calendar and dial centre with gilt spandrels to the dial corners. The hood with columns and a swan neck pediment, with mahogany crossbanding around the door and reverse painted glass known as verre eglomisé above. The trunk in oak with mahogany crossbanding, quarter columns and panelled base.
The eight day movement strikes upon a bell on the hour with hour count.
Working well, keeping good time.
Thomas Ashton of Macclesfield was working from 1760-95 and is listed in Clock and Watchmakers of the World, book by G.H.Ballie.
The clock has been recently fully restored.
